Drive-test maneuver
Parking on a hill
If the brake fails, the wheels should roll the car into the curb — not into traffic.
- 1DownhillTurn front wheels toward the curb (right, if you parked on the right).
- 2Uphill with curbTurn wheels away from the curb. When the car rolls back, the tire catches.
- 3Uphill, no curbTurn wheels to the right, toward the edge of the road, so a roll takes you off the pavement — not into the lane.
- 4AlwaysParking brake on, Park (or reverse/low in a manual), within 6 inches of the curb.
What the examiner wants
