Chapter 9 · Rules
Parking
Parallel and angle parking, hills, disabled spaces, and no-park zones.
Always finish the job
Set the parking brake, put an automatic in Park (manual in low or reverse), turn the engine off, take the key, and lock the car. On a highway shoulder, get all the way off if you can, switch on flashers, and watch traffic.
Parallel, angle, and hills
Parallel: signal, line up even with the front car about 2 feet out, back while turning the wheel right, then left when your front is clear, and finish within 18 inches of the curb.
Downhill: turn wheels toward the curb. Uphill with a curb: turn wheels away from the curb so the car rolls back into it. Uphill without a curb: turn wheels to the right, toward the edge of the road. Stop within 6 inches of the curb.
